For the first time in the Ashes, Australia looked vulnerable and both teams went to bed on the penultimate day with a win there for the taking. The equation put England in a better position – six wickets in hand and 178 runs to get. And skipper Joe Root out there in the middle, having scored a fifty. But the tables turned quickly – second ball to be precise – which saw Woakes dismissed. The onslaught continued in the next Hazlewood over as he took the wicket of Root to dismantle England’s hopes. Nathan Lyon got Moeen Ali leg before and it was all but curtains for the visitors. The match was officially over before the Tea break as Australia had romped their way to a 120 run victory which was spearheaded by five wickets from Starc. Man of the Match honours went to Shaun Marsh for the hundred in the first innings. With that, Australia take a 2-0 lead in the Ashes and move on to Perth to close things out.
Australia vs England Ashes 2017 2nd Test Day 5:
1047 hrs IST:
BOWLED! Starc gets his fifth and Australia win! Bairstow is cramped for room after the delivery pitched on off-stump and was short of length. Inside edge takes the middle stump and the celebrations are on! What a session for Australia that. Lethal bowling once again. England are bowled out for 233
1040 hrs IST: Australia are one wicket away from the win.
1037 hrs IST: Poor shot by Broad. Used to be a handy add with the bat but not with such technique. Especially against Starc, with the new ball, and on this surface. Shuffles across to a full one outside off and gets the outside edge which falls comfortably into Paine’s gloves.
1022 hrs IST: WHAT. A. DELIVERY. Mitchell Starc strikes with the first delivery. Absolutely plumb that. Over the wicket to right handed Overton, Starc gets the ball to swing in late, kept a touch low, and went past the bat to hit the pad. It was hit bang in the centre and would have taken middle stump. Easiest decision for the umpire to take
1020 hrs IST: With the new ball on offer after 80 overs, Australia take it. Have had three wickets already this session but they’re not holding back on attacking further
1005 hrs IST: DROPPED! Bancroft lets that one go from his grasp and Overton survives. Hit Bancroft’s wrist as he went down and it pops from his hands. Closer from the stumps than other slip fielders, has the helmet on, but catchable height for sure. Khawaja moves in to offer words of consolation there
0943 hrs IST: WICKET! Moeen Ali goes for the sweep and missed the delivery which pitched on middle and off. Impact is just in line. Umpire gives it out. Ali reviews. Fair delivery. No edge on it. It is going on to hit the top of off stump and it is umpire’s call. England retain their review but Australia get the wicket
0930 hrs IST: England need this pairing of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali to keep them going and take them safely to lunch to get the desired result here.
0920 hrs IST: Looks like England fan and talk show host Piers Morgan is upset…
Oh for God's sake, Woakes – at least wait until my tea's brewed & I've reached the sofa. 🙈 #ashes

0912 hrs IST: WICKET! Hazlewood gets another and this time it is the biggie in Joe Root. This could be game, set and match. Just at the half way mark. Australia’s celebrations suggest it tips the game in their favour and it may just have. A length delivery outside off, jags back in a touch, gets the underside of the edge and falls to Paine who does the rest. A packed Adelaide Oval rejoices. Two wickets in two overs for Hazlewood. DREAM START!
0901 hrs IST: WICKET! What a start for Australia. Just the second ball of the day and he’s got Woakes caught behind. Woakes is completely squared up on a length delivery. Aleem Dar reckons there is an outside edge and gives it out. Woakes reviews it. There is nothing on the hotspot but something on Snicko. Original decision stays. OUT!
0900 hrs IST: Right off we go! England get up and going from 176/4 and need 178 more to win. Root is on 67 and Woakes on 5
0830 hrs IST: Hello and Good morning in our continued live coverage of the Ashes on its conclusive day of the second Test. And how beautifully has it been set up. England need 178 runs to win, six wickets in hand and Joe Root in the middle – he holds a key role in the scheme of things. And the scheme involves England looking to chase down a 350+ total for the first time and the biggest target in Adelaide.
