Bandits' Promotional Schedule All About The Fans

DAVENPORT -- When the Quad Cities River Bandits released their promotional schedule on Thursday morning, the club said the giveaways and themes would be "taken to a new level."

There is a reason for that.

"The fans and community do such a great job supporting us," Bandits general manager Andrew Chesser said. "This is a way to say thank you."

Hoping to build off the momentum from the Bandits establishing a franchise record for per-game attendance last season, the club listened to their fans for ideas and suggestions. The result is a promotional list they feel makes each night a must-see event.

"We really wanted to talk and listen to our fans. We wanted to know what worked and what didn't work. We wanted feedback," Chesser said. "We wanted to hear input, take it and run with it."

Additional fireworks, community-based items and new theme nights highlight the schedule.

Topping the list are 15 fireworks nights, which include post-game shows each Friday home contest. The Bandits also added fireworks dates on July 2, July 18 and Sept. 3.

Seven bobblehead dolls also will be given away. The first is 2010 Moline graduate and former Bandits shortstop Thomas Lindauer having a bobblehead night on May 23. Others include St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn (Aug. 8) and Houston Astros outfielder George Springer (Aug. 29).

"It's a good mix" of traditional items and new things, Chesser said. "We didn't want to get away from the staples."

The Bandits are having their Stand Up 2 Cancer Photo Jersey Auction on July 10. Fans may submit stories and photos of their "cancer heroes" to be put on the uniform. The Boy Scout Jersey Auction -- which includes special uniforms -- is June 19 and Autism Awareness Night is Aug. 7.

Twenty giveaway nights, 14 theme events and seven entertainers also are scattered throughout the 70-game home schedule. One highlight is "Back to the Future Night" on June 20 that highlights the film trilogy.

Club officials hope the variety of giveaways and themes, plus the community-related events, can attract a crowd. Based on recent attendance figures, they are right.

"I'm not going to say this is the best promotional schedule. We feel this is the most complete promotional schedule," Chesser said. "We're excited."
