He will assume his new role starting from February 1.

The appointment was made by DHCA chairperson Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dr Al Zarooni has over 13 years of solid experience in healthcare, having previously held the positions of chief medical officer of the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations – Medical Division and director of Medical Affairs Department at Hatta Hospital, as well as director of Airport Medical Center at Rashid Hospital.

Earlier in his career, he also worked at the Dubai Health Authority, and as a family medicine resident at the Department of Health and Medical Services.

He graduated from The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Surgery and later obtained his Masters of Science in Healthcare Management from RCSI in Dubai.

He is currently studying for his Doctor of Business Administration at the SBS Swiss Business School (Dubai & Zurich).

Announcing the appointment, Princess Haya said: "Dr Al Zarooni has an exceptional mix of skill sets and combines experience in both the government healthcare sector and corporate sector, in addition to his management skills, and professional reputation that will add tremendous value to DHCA."

"I also know that with his appointment, we now have one of the most exciting teams of young Emirati CEO’s, including Dr Ramadan Al Blooshi, Dr Amer Sharif, Bader Hareb, Professor Sehamuddin Galadari and Dr Abdulkareem Al Olama," she remarked.

"It is so exciting to see this team now completed, and I am sure they will deliver HH Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for Dubai Healthcare City," she added.

In his new role, Dr Al Zarooni will be responsible for all the hospitals within DHCA under the Dubai Healthcare City Medical cluster. He will outline and communicate DHCM’s strategic direction, and at the same time, oversee the overall business operations, and day-to-day management.
