Following Saturday’s 56-14 demolition of Nebraska, Ohio State is 6-1 and firmly in contention for a Big Ten East title and another College Football Playoff berth under Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes suffered a home loss to Oklahoma, but they appear far more explosive and proficient offensively than they were against the Sooners. Senior quarterback J.T. Barrett has been a major difference-maker as the foundation of the offense.

Barrett struggled near the end of 2016, failing to reach 130 yards passing and throwing one touchdown pass against three interceptions in the Buckeyes’ final three games, including an ugly 31-0 defeat to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. However, he has looked like a different player this season. Through seven games, he has thrown for 21 touchdowns against just one interception and added 359 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Saturday, he accounted for seven touchdowns (five passing, two rushing) in the rout of the Cornhuskers. He’s also completing 66.7 percent of his passes, the highest rate of his college career. If this keeps up, Barrett should have an invite to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, the Buckeyes will have a great shot at the College Football Playoff.
