The father of a newborn baby girl found dead in a wooded area near the family's Georgia home has been charged with murder.
Newton County authorities announced on Wednesday that Christopher McNabb, 27, was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and concealing a death, WSB reports.
An autopsy determined that 2-week-old Caliyah McNabb died from blunt force trauma to the head. A warrant stated McNabb "did strike the victim ... with an unknown object,"NBC 11 reports.
"This action did cause the victim's skull to be seriously disfigured and damaged beyond repair."
The warrant also said McNabb wrapped Caliyah in a t-shirt and a blanket, placed her in a drawstring bag and attempted to hide her in the woods by covering the bag with debris.
A search party found Caliyah's body on Sunday in the woods near Covington, one day after her mother called police to report the baby missing.
Before even being charged in connection with the case, McNabb was reportedly telling people he didn't do it.
According to WSB, video taken as police were searching for the child shows McNabb walk into a Food Mart convenience store to tell the clerk he "didn't do it."
In a 911 audio recording, Courtney Bell is heard telling a dispatcher that her 2-year-old daughter woke her and McNabb up to tell them that baby Caliyah was missing.
"She's not in her sleeper. She's not here. I've looked everywhere. I've looked under clothes and everything," Bells says.
At one point during the call, Bell tells the dispatcher that McNabb is out looking for the baby.
"I looked everywhere in the house," she says frantically.
McNabb was a person of the interest in the disappearance from the beginning. He was arrested Sunday evening on a probation violation when he tried to flee and hide from police after the baby's body was found.
He remains at the Newton County Jail without bond. His first court appearance is on Thursday.
