Formula 2 Leader Charles Leclerc To Test For Ferrari Formula 1 Team

The Ferrari Formula 1 team revealed the SF71H on Thursday, and it’s the car the Tifosi hope will end four years of Mercedes dominance.

The Scuderia completed possibly the biggest day of preseason announcements by following the launch of Mercedes newest entry with the launch of their own. Last year, Ferrari was in the championship hunt until the self-destruct button was pressed in Singapore.

"Some minor things change every year, but the chassis is mostly a development -- and now is obviously the time where you see the car, it’s all ready, so you want to get in, go out on the track and have a go," said 2017 championship runner-up Sebastian Vettel.

"It’s a lot of hours, a lot of work that goes in. Not just during the offseason or winter but even very early during last season, starting the new project and to stand here now (surrounded by the team) is very special.

"I think what they are waiting for is for us to say how it feels, so we can’t wait to get out on the track to see how the car performs, how it behaves, and I think that is the answer we all want to hear and go from there."

Despite being outclassed by Vettel in each of the past three seasons, Kimi Raikkonen remains the last driver to win a world championship for Ferrari, taking the 2007 title by a single point from then McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

With Formula 2 champion and Ferrari young driver Charles Leclerc now stepping up to the Sauber F1 team, Raikkonen is surely in need of an immediate return to form or his stay at Ferrari could be coming to an end. But, if he was under any pressure, the Finn didn’t show it as he displayed confidence on the stage.

"It looks nice, and usually when it looks nice, there’s speed also, but obviously we will see that next week at the upcoming test," Raikkonen said. "Last night, I saw it for the first time in one piece. We get to try it soon and that’s when we really see what it is and what it can do."
