The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will head to Los Angeles, Calif. for a First Round game against UCLA on Saturday, March 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 pm (HT).  The Rainbow Wahine (21-10, 12-4 BWC) captured the automatic NCAA bid after winning the 2016 Big West Conference Tournament. Hawai'i is the Bridgeport Region's 14th seed and will take on the third-seeded Bruins (24-8).

The two teams will square off in Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus. The winner of the UH-UCLA match-up will face the winner of the South Florida vs. Colorado State game on Monday, March 21. Ticket information will be forthcoming.

UH head coach Laura Beeman is in her fourth season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine. She has led the 'Bows to back-to-back 20+-win seasons and a Big West regular season title last season to go with a BWC Tournament title this season. Hawai'i finished the season strong, winning 11 of its last 12 games down the stretch. In her first three seasons, she guided the 'Bows to three consecutive WNIT appearances. She joins Vince Goo as the only other Rainbow Wahine basketball coach to lead her team to the NCAA tourney.

It is the Rainbow Wahine's sixth NCAA tournament appearance and the first since 1998 after defeating UC Davis 78-59 in the BWC tourney championship game this past Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. It marks the second all-time conference tournament title (1996). It is also just the second time in Hawai'i history that both the Rainbow Warriors and the Rainbow Wahine will be playing in the NCAA tournament together in the same year (1994).

Hawai'i is 1-6 all-time against UCLA with the last meeting being played in Hilo, Hawai'i on Dec. 19, 2010. The Bruins, who were ranked No. 9 at the time, won that game, 72-44 under the previous coaching staff.
