Opelousas Man Dies In Police Custody, Death Review Underway By State Police


KLFY Newsroom - Louisiana State Police have taken over a death review after an Opelousas man died in police custody.

Police say Dennis Lazard, 34, was pronounced dead in the early hours of June 3, 2015.


Police say Lazard was involved in a home invasion on Herman Street near Railroad Avenue and when they arrived, found the suspect trying to escape through a window. When finally pursued in a foot chase, Lazard tried to jump a fence when he was apprehended.  Police say while in handcuffs the suspect collapsed and later died.
