PINELLAS PARK A manhunt is under way in Alabama for a 45-year-old man accused of killing a woman in February after her orchestra practice.
Pinellas Park police said Thursday that the agency obtained an arrest warrant for Siddeeq MaShooq, also known as Steven Brooks, of St. Petersburg.
The search for MaShooq led to Madison County, Ala., where MaShooq took an elderly couple hostage during a standoff with police Wednesday night. The couple was released unharmed, but MaShooq ran from the home, police said.
Investigators are searching for him in the area of Harvest, about 15 miles north of Huntsville. Pinellas Park homicide detectives are waiting in Alabama to arrest him.
Florida Department of Corrections records show MaShooq has served several stints in prison for offenses including third-degree murder, felony battery and grand theft.
Morton-Hicks was gunned down Feb. 12 as she was leaving a rehearsal of the Pinellas Park Civic Orchestra, for which she played trombone. She got involved in an argument with someone in the parking lot, then tried to run away. The assailant chased her and shot her in the 5100 block of 78th Avenue.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends remembered her as a charming, fun mother and rental property manager who loved music.
