The process for early absentee voting in Wisconsin's August 14 partisan primary has begun, although in La Crosse County, you'll have to wait just a few more weeks to vote early in person.
Eight democratic candidates for governor and 5 republican candidates for US Senate will be among many choices on a very busy ballot for the partisan primary. For La Crosse county, in person absentee - or early voting - doesn't begin until July 30. You can, however, vote absentee by mail. You will need to be registered to vote and file a written request with your municipality including a copy of photo ID.
"We mail out the ballots as soon as we receive a valid request with instructions that people can go ahead and mark their ballot," La Crosse City Clerk Teri Lehrke. "They need to mark it in front of a witness and then that witness has to sign the certificate envelope along with the voter."
Lehrke said it's important to note that since it is a partisan primary you can vote in only one party's primary. If you do not, the vote may be discounted.
