YWCA USA To Celebrate Extraordinary Women Leaders At WOMEN OF DISTINCTiON AWARDS GALA

The YMCA-YWCA announced its nominees for this year’s Women of Distinction Awards including local activists, politicians and community leaders.

Fifty Manitoba women have been nominated including MKO Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson and Dr. Sara Israels, a Winnipeg pediatric oncologist.

Award categories include: volunteerism, arts, culture and heritage and community champion.

“The nominee stories are awe-inspiring – these women have gone above and beyond to create opportunities for others and make our communities better,” said Melanie Verhaeghe, chair of the YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction steering committee.

The gala will be held May 4 at the RBC Convention Centre. Proceeds from the event will provide funds for women’s programming at YMCA.
