Young US Man Claims $451m Lotto Jackpot

A week after the numbers were drawn in the $451 million Mega Millions, the sole winner of the jackpot is stepping forward.

Shane Missler, a 20-year-old who bought the ticket from a 7-Eleven in Port Richey, Fla., posted a simple Facebook message the night of the drawing on Jan. 5.

"Oh. My. God."

Now, there's context to that message.

"Although I’m young I’ve had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me," he said in a release from Florida attorney Walt Blenner of the Blenner Law Group, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "I intend to take care of my family, have some fun along the way and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future."

Missler, originally from Livermore, Maine, will take the lump sum payout of $281.2 million. With his new source of income, he "retired" from his job at a background screening company.

The winning numbers were: 28, 30, 39, 59, 70 and the Mega Ball was 10.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Missler was grinning widely and clutching a yellow envelope when he turned in his ticket Friday at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee. His father and his lawyer came with him.

"If there is one thing I have learned thus far in my short time on this earth it is that those who maintain a positive mindset and stay true to themselves get rewarded," Missler said in the statement. "I look forward to the future."
